We’ve been working like dogs through these dog days of summer, listening to ‘Dog Days’ and thinking that life really is a bitch. Why? Because we’re so so excited about the new seasons collections we’ve been busting a gut to design and produce!

If you liked our label before we’re certain you’ll like us even more now and if you didn’t like us before we’re pretty hopeful you’re going to like us soon. Giant nipple in the sky

They’re called wisdom teeth because they allegedly arrive after specimen Homo Sapien has had time to add a little reason to his primeval urges but any personal mental growth I may have hitherto displayed is concealed when confronted by the excruciating pain as a too big for my jaw molar starts erupting brutally through the soft innocence of the gum. It really hurts Mummy!

If this is what teething infants are feeling it’s a good job they can’t speak as I ‘m pretty sure their doting mothers would breakdown in the face of a country of angelic infants beseeching all and sundry to put them out of their misery and send them packing to the giant nipple in the sky.

Heaven is different things for different people. Right now for me it’s a mouth devoid of pain, but should this state ever be attained the only thing that would improve this hypothetical existence would be an item of delicious newness from youreyeslie.com, and if somebody kind at youreyeslie.com was also willing to give me 10% off this purely hypothetical purchase by offering, for example, the discount code NEWNESS then that would really make my day. The practical impossibility of starting afresh

Don’t we all just wish we could start again sometimes? Don’t we all possess fantasies of disappearing into the ether and opening a teashop in the middle of the Scottish Highlands?  Don’t we all just wish sometimes we could start with a blank canvas?

At YEL we start every season with a blank canvas: A white t-shirt stretched into the shape of our longing and positively pregnant with potential; Every season new ideas and images and designs come flooding through our little heads and we take biannual delight in seeing this evolve into the new collection, splashing down with relish upon the softest cottons; Every season we start afresh.

But there are complications. Old lovers don’t simply disappear off the face of the earth. You bump into them looking radiant with their new partners as you’re at the checkout treating yourself to a bumper pack of Kleenex. You enjoy halcyon days thinking you’ve moved on and matured, then suddenly they pop up again to remind you and sundry that you’re still just a hopeless shell stuffed full of incalculable neuroses.

The ghosts of our failures haunt us forever and here at Your Eyes Lie we’ve got a few ghosts.

Our old designs never just disappear. They pop-up on Politician’s old laptops and in un-shredded bags of bank statements, those certain designs that we thought had been smoothly erased from the annals of history like Trotsky from Lenin’s raucous party pictures.

At YourEyesLie we don’t like surprises, and heeding the advice of Sun-Tzu we “Keep our friends close and our enemies closer”. That’s why rather than cutting off our old relationships we keep a special place in our heart and on our website for them: You’ll find our ‘favourite’ older designs in the YEL Classic Gallery.

When somebody knows what a flop you are in bed, it’s probably wiser to stay friends.

End of Days

Largely forgotten 70’s and 80’s designer Zoltan On once declared that “the T-shirt is the greatest American invention”. While here at YourEyesLie we certainly agree with the sentiment most accounts actually attribute the invention of the T-shirt to the British, and in particular the Royal Navy.

The t-shirt- that was later to fight on the front line of anti-war protests, represent rock n roll rebellion, and herald the dawn of the sexual revolution- allegedly came about because sailors were ordered to sew short sleeves onto their undershirts so that their hairy armpits were concealed from royal view on special visits. Rather than arise from any counter-cultural revolution it was ironically establishment prissiness that was the mother of this particular invention.

Since then the t-shirt has become a sociological sponge, an infinitely adaptable medium that reveals the person and the times while concealing the armpits.

And when fabric, cut, print and personality are all in harmony it becomes a joy to behold and to wear. We’re always looking for ways to improve and so your feedback is always greatly appreciated.

CRISIS!!!

They say that nice guys finish last but that depends upon what you’re racing for. If your life goal is to be a good person then by being nice you’ll probably finish pretty close to the front. If your goal is sex with hordes of hotties I’d probably try a different tactic because nobody gets really excited by monogamy and trust, at least not in the DVDs I’ve seen.

YourEyesLie don’t mind you sniffing around other labels. Court All Saints, have a dalliance with American Apparel and sleep with Diesel. We don’t care because we know that when it comes down to it we’re the only marriage material, working damn hard to keep it fresh and giving you love through both the good and the bad times: It’s us you’ll come home to. We aren’t bothered if you’re grumpy and have bad skin, aren’t fazed that you’ve accrued 700 Facebook friends you social whore/computer geek, and we certainly aren’t perturbed by the fact you’ve got no money because at YourEyesLie we love you for you.

But this love must be reciprocated. We need your love now more than ever, because we’re showing all the signs of a mid-life crisis.

We’ve just traded in the ugly and lethargic old website for a new model; smooth, slick and boasting terrific lines- we’re very proud of her although she is very demanding, requiring Cartier diamonds and dinner at The Ivy on an alarmingly regular basis. Yep, she displays all the hallmarks of fastidiousness but there is a way you can help us to help her, as her favourite meal is actually humble Paypal on toast: you can feed her on the website (www.youreyeslie.com), but please don’t tell her she’s a golddigger.

They lament that faith is on the wane, our Christian morality being replaced by silly fashions and lust fuelled passions, and they’re probably right. But isn’t Nurave just part of God’s bigger plan? We all hope so.	Though John Steinbeck may be no more the tradition of spinning gold from the dusts of depression continues as YEL introduces this grizzly little number. Now, doesn’t it feel good to be alive!	Everybody knows she has three eyes but what is lesser known is that she also has a pair of ripe pink cherries suspended from her nostrils that require an entire army of taxpayer financed photoshoppers to keep under wraps.
While knife crime is now largely a harmless relic of the past nooses continue to strike terror into the minds of Middle England, and at YEL we thought we had to help.  Therefore we pledge support to the Daily Mail’s fictional ‘No noose is good noose’ campaign and will give every penny sold from this shirt towards helping a small independent clothing label survive the economic downturn.	It’s actually our world and our style but you can steal our idea and pass it off as your own by buying this T-shirt.	Thomas Hardy wrote books and lived in the countryside. We design t-shirts and live in the city. But a thick moustache and a few leaves in your hair is a good way to live wherever or whoever you are.

Of course our crisis wouldn’t be complete without a new hobby and we’ve fulfilled this part of the criteria by opening a shiny new womenswear concession in Topshop Oxford Circus. Please come and check us out on level SB2.

And while Obama might have it all under control we’ve been behaving erratically, ditching our white only policy and celebrating multi-colourism by introducing a cool mint and nutritious aubergine into our SS09 range. Colours so tasty you could eat them.

We’ve admitted it, okay, we’re having a crisis but please, don’t try and change us. Love us for us the way we love you for you.
